Bizarre Politics Reports:
Back to the Future - 1994 still applys
This begins our Back to the Future series of published letters back to 1994 to show that not much has changed during the most massive dislocation of jobs in U.S. history. It could be argued - including the Great Depression .
(The letter below, was first published in the Cleveland Plain Dealer in 1994. It is about President Clinton and Congressman Gingrich joining as one in the passing of the unfair trade agreements with Rush Limbaugh playing a strong role in the vote. Now 14 years later most of the same things apply especially since Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke says Americans should now spend the economic stimulus money on "domestically produced" items. However 14 years later it is difficult to find anything left that is made in the USA ) See Tapart News and Art that Talks

Can Gingrich and the Republicans keep their pomises - and should they?
" As a Conservative, I apologize to the American worker ( for Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh. (Limbaugh was instrumental in the elections of the new Contract with American Republicans.) Soon they will be promising a chicken for every pot and telling us to be happy. Maybe Gingrich will add it to the "contract".
What they don't understand is that many of us came out of the woodwork (to vote) because the otion of being "Clintonize" was too much to handle. We were against the new GATT because were against the old GATT that exported our jobs and industries. Anyone who has dealth with this end of things knows that our American idea of fair play doesn't happen in many foreign countries. Anyone who has been on either side of a strike line knows nothing gets resolved by moving jobs outside the USA. It seems Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh have a problem in defining what human dignity is all about.
Those who feel Limbaugh betrayed them by hiding his real feelings about the GATT trade agreement until the election should drop a note to his sponsors and the radio station to tell them to boycott their products. Then we conservatives would like to reach out to the workers of America and offer an alliance of solidarity until this terrible "Big Money" thing stops stealing the American Dream from us. In the meantime, the Republicans can stuff their ' Contract with America'. GATT should have been part of it.
I recall Rush Limbaugh answerings some angry phone calls on his radio program saying - I don't care if someone 64 years old will lose their jobs .
A very strange thing happened back then. The Contract with American Republicans won Congress in November 1993 and were to take over in January 1994. However, for some reason, President Bill Clinton could not wait. He called Congress back from their Thanksgiving vacation and pushed the passage of GATT in a Lameduck session of Congress. As a result, history will show that it was a Democrat President and a Democrat Congress that passed both NAFTA and GATT. Today it must be noted since Hillary Clinton is running for President that she was there too. History will show that President Bill Clinton joined hands with Gingrich, Dole and Limbaugh at the altar of greed with the sacrifice to the Big Money gods being workers. President Bush the second followed and just continued what President Clinton started - seemingly as the water boy for President Bush the first. And now Hillary Clinton is in the wings ready to become President Clinton the second
(See related posts here - For whom the bell tolls and a record and list of jobs lost and company close downs in 1998 while President Clinton and Alan Greenspan were proclaiming prosperity.) Later, Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans exposed the underclass in the USA living in a silent depression.)
Is it a Back to the Future scenario or have we hit bottom in the race to the bottom ?
Would we need an economic stimulus package today, if NAFTA and GATT was put down back then?
Is it too late? Have we chopped up the Golden Goose that laid the Golden Eggs and scattered the pieces across the globe? Is this why our young men and woman have to die in wars in far away places?
OPEN LETTER to all Presidential Candidates - pass it on
