More about portable dirty manufacturing

Bizarre Politics Reports:
Clean air advocates in the U.S. cite the health issues related to factories and business environments but say nothing about workers - mostly women- being poisoned in the manufacturing of things like the energy efficient light bulbs in China.
Free Trade Madness
There are no walls in the sky that partition pollution. However, clean air advocates act as if there are partitions in the sky and deny the fact clean air has no borders.
We live in absurd contradictions as the surge for clean air and other green and energy saving advocates sidestep the biggest polluter of all times - Free Trade.
Free Trade is not trade as historically defined and practiced but it it is primarily based on moving production from place to place for the sake of cheaper labor and evading regulations. Clean Air advocates concentrate on individual countries and regions. As more regulations come more production is moved to dirty manufacturing environments around the world using impoverished workers under inhumane conditions. The pollution increases as more and more manufacturing becomes portable and ready to be moved to places that allow dirty manufacturing.
The U.S. not only has lost its manufacturing base which was perhaps the cleanest in the world but Free Trade has also devalued the value of work itself. The U.S. now has a vast new working poor class which replaced middle class of production workers. This has led to many main streets in our major cities looking like third world countries.
There are some sections in my impoverished city that look better than ever. However where there was once enormous business activity , there is very little left with many of our inner cities now depopulated. Where it was once almost impossible to travel down main streets due to business activity, we have vacant land (with open areas for even small farms), empty factories, empty homes and boarded up store fronts. Restaurant openings and closing flourish with many trying to find a way to economically survive.

Read about manufacturing conditions in China related to the energy efficient light bulbs. It reports how many workers are being poisoned in making these bulbs.
Afterwards, the bulbs take 8000 miles of dirty long haul shipping to get to local markets. We have advocates for clean air trying to stop the use of old freighters on the Great Lakes while ignoring the use of all the old ships on the high seas that bring in all the imports to the U.S.
We were quoted in a top newspaper in Ohio about the dark side of energy saving light bulbs along with a published response to the article. We continued with articles here at Bizarrre Politics along with our other articles at Philly future. org node/5197 and Philly future. org/node/5298 Now, we follow up on a story about our local electrical utility starting a program where they give their users "free" energy saving light bulbs to comply with new state standards for the reduction of energy use. The announcement met with an outpouring of protests against the plan especially when users found out they would be charged a monthly fee to cover what the electrical utility would lose in revenues due to the use of the new bulbs.
We also noted a recent report that the energy efficient light bulbs emit UV radiation. This comes on top of the mercury toxicity of the bulbs .
Then we noted a new article citing the use of the bulbs in the Lakewood Observer suburban newspaper in their "Greening The City" section and wondered if we all were losing our minds.
