Bizarre Politics Reports:
Confessions
Stop the world - it's time to get off - at least for awhile...
I am currently reading The Age of Turbulence by Alan Greenspan and the latest book about Mother Theresa and her voyage on earth. Both books are like confessions. This comes after reading The Confessions of and Economic Hit Man by John Perkins and The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman from the New York Times. In between all this , I found some followers of Governor Huckabee who is running as a Republican Candidate for President- relating to him in reference to Rerum Novarum which is an encyclical by Pope Leo during the late 19th century. ( It has been a standard for human dignity in the workday for more than a 100 years.) I found this to be a pleasant surprise. However, I do not like Huckabee's stand on pre-emptive wars. They prompt terrorism instead of preventing it.
We suggest the reading these books and searching out Huckabee and Rerum Novarum prior to voting.
I will hopefully digest most of this to present here later. For now here is a brief summary.
The Age of Turbulence by Alan Greenspan has Greenspan acting as his own defense attorney for his place in history. The most significant part of his book is not what is in it but what is not in it. From what I read so far, there is no mention of the Free Enterprise system, unions, workers having a voice in their destinies, the Lend Lease act and more things like that. He has only one small reference to the Marshall Plan. Of course he ignores how business is manipulated for the sake of stock values. He talks in a stratosphere where elitists live and act out their lives. He never gets into the historical definition of trade versus what we have today with Free Trade being the of moving production from place to place for the sake of the cheapest labor markets of the world. The real commodities are workers who are put on a world trading block to compete with one another down to the lowest levels of wage slave and even child labor.
As most free traders, Greenspan misinterprets Adam Smith. First of all Adam Smith theories came before the industrial revolution and the so called Free Market. More importantly, Adam Smith held labor as something "sacred" and the core of all societies. It is obviouse the Free Traders do not concern themselves with things like that. For them workers are just units of work. Greenspan ignores these priorities. ( We will post more about his book after we have finished his book. )
Mother Theresa went to serve the poorest of the poor and in her we see a person with internal struggles that will not stop her from serving her Love in Jesus. She shows what people should do when the Free Enterprise system ( that Greenspan does not talk about) fails its mission. It seems too many of us in the Catholic Faith wear blinders and refuse to connect the dots. We still think from the top down and are afraid of approaching the poverty issue where it starts. We do not use Rerum Novarum as something practical and wonder about it as an ideal. Others in the Christian Faith, do much of the same worrying more about being "saved" and prosperity theology while on earth. Mother Theresa just jumped in without any reservations. It is no wonder she had a state funeral honoring her by the nation of India. The conflict surrounding the biblical account - and they shared everything in common versus the right to private property - still has not matured.
The Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins reveals the sinister side of global economics with the interplay of the World Bank, Free Trade and Globalization. We do not need any conspiracy theories to know the global economy is not flowing in any natural economic way but it is driven by elite forces who are out of touch with the real needs in the workday. If you want to be stunned about the real world of finance, you should read this book. It relates to what I am trying to say about the The Unnetted - If you are not part of any network, you do not exist I will try to go deeper into his book later. However, you need to read it yourself and let it age in you for awhile before you make your own conclusions.
I put up a site reviewing The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman. This one blows by mind. It can be described as a wolf in sheep clothing. Friedman also leaves out many of the real historical events that led to Globalization and Free Trade. He also reverses cause and effect in the material he includes. This is a must read because it sets the stage for all of the above.

Stop the World - It's time to get off- at least for awhile....
Is it time to prepare for the post-Globalization era? I think so. We need to take time to re-think what Globalization should be, its limits, how Free Trade is its tool and why people historically gathered together into a nation. Certainly economics is not something separate and the global economy without borders is not working. As a matter of fact, it is a new version of Colonialism causing wars and terrorism.
