Bizarre Politics Reports:
If you lose your job due or business due to free trade, you will get help. This the lie of the century that followed the scam of the century - free trade
The lie of the century follows the scam of the century - free trade
When President Clinton and the other top political free traders passed the free trade agreements - NAFTA, GATT, CAFTA etc ., they promised all those who would lose their jobs or businesses due to free trade would help. I do not know of anyone who got this help except for the financial communities that fostered free trade . I do know that the bankruptcy courts were very busy as workers lost their jobs and homes due to free trade. President Bush and President Obama bailed out big money that invested in free trade but they ignored all the workers who lost their jobs and the small businesses that went out of business because of free trade. In all the financial stimulus packages, nothing is mentioned about the trade deficit chopping our economy off at its foundation. The same old funny money monopoly games go on while workers are jumped over and ignored. President Obama has married big money to big government in a new State Socialist Capitalist way. Supposedly, the money is going to trickled down to the masses in some mysterious way from way up high with the decisions coming from an elite grouping of politicians and big money interests. Common sense tells us, it won't work. Tariffs have been taken off products and put on future generations to pay the toll. But there is no reason to believe that workers of the future will make enough money to support this new monopoly game.
Now we get headlines in the business section of our newspaper that Lost jobs not likely to return before 2012, economists say.
They refer to the jobs lost during the more recent "recession" while ignoring the millions of jobs lost prior to that time. Millions lost their jobs during the 1990s in the most massive dislocation of jobs in U.S. history. A brand new working poor class was created and replaced the middle class. As the value of work and workers deflated the power of consumers to support the global free trade movement dwindled away. Hurrican Katrina in New Orleans exposed a hidded underclass living in a silent depression across America.
The term underemployment lost its meaning. I can recall when as underemployed rate was reported but now that most of our working class is underemployed , there is no rate applied to this status. In fact, the employment rate today includes even those who make less than a $100 a month. They are reported as employed. This would have been laughable years ago but now it is just an accepted fact of life.
Two American economists split a Nobel prize for economics in researching how people cooperate th each other outside of conventional markets. However, I did not see anything about workers being the prime core of any economy. Adam Smith held workers as something sacred and the core of society. The free traders who use Adam Smith for their anything goes policies, ignore this part of Smith's equation.
Today the stock market comes first. The value of stocks are now associated with the devaluation of workers and work. The value of stocks rise as workers get fired instead of hired. And the lie of the century continues no matter who is president. See also World lost economic common sense
