Electric Utility to add a monthly charge for use of energy saving light bulbs. This follows state edicts for plans to reduce the use of energy. This is a continuing saga of the dark side of energy savings
Electric Utility puts a monthly charge on all customers to compensate their lost of revenues in the use of energy saving light bulbs.
This is how ridiculous things are these days. The worst part is no one in government or the utility tells the dark story behind energy saving light bulbs and how much energy is wasted in the long haul shipping of the bulbs from "dirty factories" in China. Nothing is said about what is done with the waste or the dirty conditions.
The energy saving light bulb plan is out of sync with the real world. The plan is an example of the contradictions of free trade. There is a software company in the U.S. that rates products based how green they really are in terms of how much energy is used in getting the product to market domestically. They have yet to consider all the long haul internationally shipping and protective packing factors. Those who plan the energy saving programs , ignore the dirty factories where the products are made. This affects the ecology dramatically and the affects of how much energy is being used up.
Pregnant women who make the bulbs in Chinese factories cut themselves with much of the mercury affected waste products part of the process they work in. As long as planners do not get into the cause and effect in their planning, short range energy saving planning may be more costly and even more deadly.
