President Obama claims that his stimulus funds to modernize the nation's energy systems will create tens of thousands new jobs. What is wrong with this story?

We previously wrote about the dark side of energy saving light bulbs and how former Vice President Gore represents a contradiction when he talks about the ecology. and the beat goes on with President Obama announcing that his administration will invest $3.4 billions in stimulus funds for some 100 private companies and utilities receiving grants up to $200 million each to build a nationwide "smart grid" designed to improve energy delivery and boost the use of renewable energy sources.
Obama administration officials say the projects also will create tens of thousands of new jobs in the near future. The President also urged the Senate to pass a measure that caps carbon emissions- and set aside arguments that it would harm the economy and cost jobs.
He spoke to Florida Power and Light employees, with the sun glinting off acres of the utiltys's solar panels behind him.
Sounds good doesn't it, but as we noted in the dark side of energy saving light bulbs, these bulbs use up 8000 miles of energy traveling from China where they are produced in questionable dirty manufacturing envirnoments with mercury out in the open. Whenever, people like President Obama and former Vice President Gore talk about cleaning up the environment and energy savings, they forget to tell the whole story. A vast middle class of lost production workers with millions losing their jobs during the most massive dislocation of jobs in U.S. history are ignored in all these pronouncements. These jobs are gone forever in the new free trade global economy. Reports show that up to 50 percent of the human resources of the United States are not being used. Living wage jobs have vanished. On top of this the workers who took over these jobs in other lands and who work for impoverished wages handle toxic items to produce products for the U.S. Their land fills get the waste materials. They work in unregulated dirty manufacturing conditions while President Obama calls for more regulations for only the U.S. He also discards the cost to the environment due to long haul ocean, air , rail and truck shipping that free trade requires. At the same time all kinds of new requirements are being announced for local situations in the U.S. In the Great Lakes region of the U.S. more stringent ecology constraints are put on local shipping. Again nothing is said about the conditions of ships coming from other lands.
And note the phrases in the stories about the stimulus pacakages ..." an announcement by the Obama administration that it will invest $3.4 billion in stimulus funds as if they are the ones with the money. The money comes from the taxpapers with the Social Security Trust Fund money used as any other tax money in the general fund. The stimulus money also acts as tariffs on future generations to come who will keep paying for what is happening today. Also recent history of the funding for research and development in other industries including the high tech industry shows that the production phase ends up in other lands. Why would the new industries of solar and wind energy be different.
This is what is wrong with this story and all other stories like it coming out of Washington DC these days. It all adds up to free trade continues to be the biggest scam of the century
