Bizarre Politics Reports: Free Trade is older than you think
Back to the Future
If we do not understand our recent past, we can not hope for any change in the future. It is really all about you in the global economic arena.

Free Trade has not evolved in any natural economic way. It has been driven by powerful forces in government, big business, the academic world and the major media channels.

In the past twenty years, Free Trade and Globalization in the USA, has been consummated by the Bush family and the Clintons combined. The elder Bush set the process on high speed, the Clintons came in and put it at warp speed and then Bush the second hid it behind his predatory wars. Most other countries can tell similar stories and we do not need any conspiracy theories to know all of this. All we have to do is look around us at the devastation of this economic storm. In our city we have miles of main streets with empty stores, empty factories and empty homes as if a severe storm hit our city. It's the same in many parts of the world too.

Selling Workers on the World Market -
( The real commodities of Free Trade are workers )

From Cleveland Plain Dealer, largest newspaper in Ohio, by Ray Tapajna - in 1997 not 2008 _____________________________ _____________________
International trade for the past 25 years has been based on unfair free trade as outlined in the General Agreement On Trade and Tariffs and the North Americn Free Trade Agreement. It is not new, and we have evidence in the close-down family farms, storefronts and factories. It is simple to count the number of jobs lost. All one has to do is note all the foods we eat and all the products in our homes that come from other places, and ask oneself where all the workers wnes who once grew or made those products. ( The products are not gone; we still use them but it is the jobs that are gone- moving production from place to place based on the cheapest labor markets.)
Franklin Roosevelt said, "Economic diseases are highly communicable." This quote comes from an old history book published in the 1940s from a chapter titled, "Towards a new world order." So none of this is that new. In Mexico, the very same people who are supposed to be helped are losing their only source of income. The subsidized corn flowing from the New Deal programs is underselling the subsistence price of the Mexican corn. However, today, the program that was established to protect the family farms here is controlled by giant agricultural corporations. Meanwhile, top experts in economics and sociology demonstrate how the Zapatistas revolt in Mexico causes tremendous problems on the German mark, causing unemployment there. (cause and effect principles create a domino effect.) Is this the kind of global economy we should promote? The proponents of uncontrolled free trade, should to the walk before they talk (and act)--like the millions who have lost their jobs and everything they worked their entire lives to save. GATT and NAFTA type programs take tariffs off our products and put tariffs on teh American wokers, who carry the overhead of human dignity and fair play with them. ____________
(On Public Television, there was a good program regarding the many "eateries" in small towns in Mexico. What we noted immediately in viewing the program was that the food came directly from harvest or slaughter. There was little need for refrigeration. long haul refrigerated shipping of any kind and a total ecology of the processes involved. Now, most likely with NAFTA, these eateries will close down and the processed foods will come by smoking refrigerated trucks from far away places. It makes no sense what so ever.)
