Plantation Owner Mentality continues in the USA as those who do the walk instead of the talk are left out of any discussions - In spite of the economic crisis, the same people control the economy
Our political leaders and the talking heads on major media channels rant about issues while those who are doing the walk instead of the talk are blocked out of the discussions. See Mr and Ms potatoe heads, it is time to get your ear, eyes etc. plugged in at - spinning the news is not new . It is obvious that workers and small businesses have no voice in the process of globalization and free trade.
Free traders like Presidents Obama, Bush and Clinton hide from the inevitable. Our economy based on making money on money instead of making things has burned out. All the funny money schemes are playing themselves out and the bail outs of the financial communities are failing. The finnancial community news commentators still push the scam of the century - free trade.
They play the same old song about the global economy.
A person asked President Obama what can we do to bring back the jobs. President Obama evaded the question by saying that all the jobs are due to outsourcing, he said automation has played a part in the lost of jobs too. ( I wonder how many people really get a chance to ask real questions. ) The Tea Party meetings seem to be the only place but I never hear any questions about the core of our economic mess - free trade which now has a long history of failures. All nations of the world need to prepare for the post- globalization era.
The lost of domestic jobs due to automation is small related to all the
jobs that have been lost due to the moving of factories and production ouside the USA. In fact, many of the high technology jobs that were once here were the result of automation and many of these jobs were sent overseas where manual labor can compete with the cost of automation. We need real jobs now with the new working poor class that replaced the middle class workers losing their jobs too. There is no place to hide anymore. The funny money will play itself out and one of the last equities we have in the U.S. is the value of labor and workers. This value acts as a real money value. We need to restore this value throughout the world.
I can not understand what the Free traders are thinking now with the financial investments banging against each other while the U.S. keeps losing valuable jobs. We need to restore a balance of the value of workers and labor with the vast needs our society requires. Only middle class jobs can pay the bills. About 70 percent of all workers pay more in payroll taxes than they do in income taxes. Although the payroll tax is used the same way as income tax is and there is no actual money in the Social Security Trust Funds, it represents more of a overhead than income taxes since income taxes come after the fact and not before with businesses having to include this part in the cost of doing business. The payroll tax makes it difficult to compete with nations that do not have this tax.
Disposing of a middle class upsets the geopolitical setting for any sovereign nation and the economic and ecological setting in the whole world.
Long haul shipping adds up to about a 10 percent to 20 percent cost to any item. Imports are obviously based on impoverished workers. The
industrial revolution is not over, but much of the food we eat and the things we use in our daily lives come from countries using impoverished workers. The end result is a loss of value to all. Only local value added economies in balanced geopolitical settings work. All values have to be in sync with the culture and the support systems of all nations.
On top of this free trade plays a direct part in the pollution of our earth. The merchant ships, air, rail and truck long haul shipping pollute the world. Plus the goods come from dirty manufacturing facilities that are outside the standards of the user nations. Shopping at places like Wal-mart promotes a dirty world and impoverished workers everywhere. It is only a matter of time when all of the degradation comes to our own front door.
The talking heads on some of the financial reporting channels like to tell us how fortunate we are to have places like Wal-mart to shop. Forbes says it allows us to have more money to save and spend on more things.
Here is the real story about places like Wal-mart. We use this as only one example of the damage that free trade has done to our nation.
Wal-mart imports about $12 billion dollars from China - Once most of these goods were once made here. So most of your money spent at Wal-mart, goes to where the products are made and does not stay in the U.S. to regrow and recycle our economy. 80 percent of Wal-mart's 6000 supplying factories are in China. Just imagine what difference it would make in our economy if the U.S. had kept only 50 percent of these manufacturing facilities in the U.S. China open direct retail marts in New York. What stops them from opening more since Wal-mart is really only a middle man.
About 38 percent of families of Wal-mart workers need some government assistance like food stamps, earned income credits, subsidized housing etc. So the money you save at Wal-mart has to pay for all of this. Wal-mart requires workers to work six months before they get any benefits. The turn over rate of employees is 44 percent and I bet the six months waiting period plays a big part in this. Wal-mart enjoys very cheap labor for these six month workers that keep turning over again and again. And Wal-mart saves on health care this way plus their health care has more deductibles for workers to absorb.
Forbes and other talking heads on many news channels, distort the reality of our economic crisis. The main cause is free trade that really never was trade as history reports it.
