Populist Conservatives have no where to turn

February 14th 2009 00:15
Bizarre Politics Reports: The stale rhetoric continues with the stimulus package doomed to failure.
Populist Conservatives left out of the picture.

Populist Conservatives have no place to go and no one is telling their story. The Liberals are doing their thing, sounding out about big projects while ignoring the man on the street and what it takes for the Free Enterprise system to work. The Republicans do not relate to the streets and the "workers" out there. In essence, they say I got mine , why don't you have yours. I doubt if there ever was a Republican leader who came from the factory floors.

Politicians and the media ignore the real causes of the economic crisis. No one talks about NAFTA, GATT, CAFTA and the WTO as being causes behind the crisis. No one talks about the Trade Deficit which has broken records since NAFTA and GATT were passed. The losses are deep but no one brings it up as they discuss how to resolved the economic crisis.

Government has caused many of our problems and both major parties participated
in the process. The Federal Government start moving factories outside
the U.S starting in 1956. This story is still untold . This temporary program never ended and evolved into the maquiladora factories in Mexico where 4000 U.S. factories were re-located and then evolved into so called Free Trade. It is obvious, Free Trade and Globalization did not evolve in any natural economic fashion but were driven by elite powerful forces outside the will of the people with workers having so say in the matter.

There were four men who could have changed the course of history in our
times and only one was a Democrat - See Rush Limbaugh could have saved the world

The first thing America needs to do is to completely do away with the Payroll
Tax. It acts as a flat tax on workers and business. It is
used in the general fund like any other tax and so it is not something
separate. It represents a 15 percent overhead in competing in the
global economic arena. Ronald Reagan is responsible for this high tax. President Reagan attacked the unions when he should have sorted out what real tangible values were left in the economy.

We need to explore Taps instead of Taxes since Globalization have made all of our tax codes obsolete. See Real Tax Reform
Most taxes act as tariffs as the old saying goes - you can pay me now or you can pay me later, but you will pay. The stimulus package is actually a reversed tariff.

Why take tariffs off products if you have to add them on in the end for the economy to survive. History tells us, tariffs supported government operations and services for many years without the need for income taxes. However, keep in mind that Free Trade is not really about trading products but it is primarily based on moving production from place to place for the sake of cheaper labor. Tariffs are non-applicable in this kind of "trading". Workers are the commodities being traded.

Bush's tax cuts did not work . The payroll tax was not even included. Bush's stimulus package did not work because like Ben Bernanke says, the best way to stimulate the economy is to buy "domestically produced goods". This too remains an untold story. Any extra money spent at the retail level quickly goes to where the products are made and do not stay in the U.S. to stimulate its economy.

What worked were pragmatic programs like the
Lend Lease Act
The Marshall Plan
GI Bill
and of all things the Y2k crisis that pumped billions if not trillions
into the economy in an artificial way. This is an untold story too. Clinton enjoyed the first stimulus package with billions if not trillions of dollars poured into the economy to fix the Y2k problems.

The bottom line is this, money products took the front row seats in our
economy with real tanglible values in the back rows. Raw Capitalism and
the Free Market smashed the Free Enterprise system.

We will never get out of our mess now until we start telling it like it
is. Journalists, commentators and politician lare taking detour roads and need to get to the streets of USA and how people are trying to survive.

I couldn't agree more, my compadre. As you can see from my moniker (PopulistConservative), we speak the same language. This is why I've voted third party in 3 of the 7 presidential elections I've been eligible to vote in. Our "leaders" want to export whatever jobs they can and then import cheap, illegal labor for the jobs that can't be exported (and dump their social costs on the taxpayers). What do businesses think is the endgame? Can they not look past tomorrow's stock price for once? If we keep it up, our standard of living will eventually move to equilibrium with second- and third-world countries.

It sounds like you and I speak the same language. The next big fight won't be between the Dems and the GOP (for the most part) . It will be between the elites and the non-elites. It's starting already with the meltdown on Wall Street and the destruction of housing values and retirement accounts. Average people are tired of bearing the brunt of the greed and corruption of Washington and Wall Street.

I'm a big fan of Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham, and Lou Dobbs. I agree with much of what Rush says, but he a pompous windbag. His substance is fine, but his style is abhorrent.

Anyway, it's good to see a fellow PopCon on Orble. Both parties suck and that blows.

Thank you for your comment. It is good to know that there are other Populist Conservatives out there.

I started out reading The Trap by Sir James Goldsmith who was a reformed corporate raider and became a great adocate in both France and England.

Then I came across Chuck Harder, host of For the People. Populists owe him alot. He was in the forfront of this advocacy.

I also was receiving and unusual magazine which was primarily about investments in high technology but it had several writers who wrote about social justice issues and fair trade. The magazine was called UPSIDE and one journalist wrote deeply about Manuel Castell. Castell has written several books about globalization and he actually introduced a new study discipline from an sociological economic perspective. He came from the Spanish Civil War era, which caused me to be very hesitant about reading him, However the Journalist that reviewed him was a good Populist. Manuel Castell actually predicted the economic crisis down to the letter more than 15 years ago.

I also have kept close to Rep Marcy Kaptur concepts. She is from Toledo Ohio and is a real expert for fair trade. Ross Perot asked her to be his running mate but she declined.
Lou Dobbs is good and I somewhat become disenchanted with Laura Ingram as being out of touch with the streets.

There are other good Populists but sadly there are not enough of us yet.

I turned off Rush Limbaugh years ago when he locked hands with President Clinton in the passing of NAFTA and GATT - See Rush Limbaugh could have saved the world
